The Tale End

The Penny Floor, Part Two: The Numbers

Edition #2, Published October 21, 2026

We're building a penny floor in the bathroom of our caboose, The Boise Jewell. We glue each penny by hand onto a black floor, sorted into lights, darks and mids so the shades form a design, with railroad tracks laid out in Janae's found dimes. When we finish, we'll pour epoxy over the top to seal it. (Part One covers how it started.)

Day two started at 6:30 AM, and we set our last penny at 8:30 PM. In between, we took a small break for tacos and handled a minor plumbing emergency.

In the video, you can watch the characters in our penny floor take shape. They are integral to our story with the caboose, and we'll tell you more about that soon.

Laying numbers in pennies turned out to be its own puzzle. I worked upside down and backwards, and that led to several errors I had to pull up and reset. It kept my mind engaged the whole day, even as my fingers went numb more than once.

We're getting close. The floor will be finished in time for our 1920s-themed Halloween party on October 31st, when we launch The Boise Jewell. Our followers get first swing at booking a stay.
